Freemen General Outing – the Museum of Norwich
Each year your Committee arranges an outing to a local place of interest and this year the vote was for The Museum of Norwich at The Bridewell
This visit is scheduled for the evening of Monday 23rdJuly, 6.30pm.start, finishing at 8.30pm.
Our visit has been specially arranged to include extras that are not normally available and also includes refreshments. There is a £5 cost to cover these extras, payable on entry.
One of the big exhibits at the Museum of Norwich at The Bridewell is The Jacquard Loom.
Norwich was at the forefront of the weaving industry and much of the City’s wealth was derived from the weavers. Most of us Norwich Freemen have an ancestor who was a weaver. Jenny Caynes, the museum curator, has kindly arranged for an expert weaver be present so we will be able to see (and hear) how the Jacquard Loom works. We will be split into small groups so we will all get a good view of the Loom working.
Another extra is the Museum’s Under-croft which will be opened up especially for us Freemen and of course the rest of the museum will be open to us too.
To round off the evening, there will be refreshments of tea, coffee or fruit juice.
If you have a Freeman relative who does not use email do please let them know about this invitation.
For them, spaces can be booked by telephone ( 01603 625993 ) between 19.00 hrs and 21.00 hrs weekdays until 16th July.
