New freemen of Norwich admitted
A traditional annual ‘Court of Mayoralty’ was held at City Hall, Norwich on 17 February 2017 to admit 26 new men and women to the Freedom of Norwich. (See pictures above, taken by Jeff Taylor, Norwich City Council).
The Lord Mayor Councillor Marion Maxwell congratulated the group on their admission. She told them:
“You will be aware that the rights and privileges associated with the freedom have diminished somewhat over the years. There now seems less demand to graze cattle on common pasture!
“However, the honour of becoming a freeman has not diminished in any way, and I am sure today’s ceremony will be something that you will cherish for many years to come.
This afternoon you have sworn a special kind of allegiance to the Queen, and to the city of Norwich. The wording may seem archaic but I am sure you will strive to uphold the undertaking contained in those ancient words.
“Once again, my sincere congratulations. I am delighted that you are all carrying on with such a wonderful tradition.”
The new freemen are: Glynis Joan Drummond; Charles Joseph Drummond; Anne Clare Drummond; Thomas Robert Drummond; Caroline Anne Woodward; Henry James Mitchell Helliwell; Kate Rhiannon Helliwell; Alistair Dominic Brand; Eilidh May Gaze; Fionn Michael Lockerbie Gaze; Holly Louise Gaze; Sian Louise Goss; Adam George Goss; Imogen Kate Healing; Eleanor Lucy Healing; Matthew James Eke; James Peter Stephen Reeve; Oliver Jack Cockaday; Benjamin Geoffrey Tallowin; James Samuel Reynolds; Claire Mary Barker; Beverley Jayne Govin; Alexandra Maitland Dinwiddie; Ruth Louise Sloper; Kate Marie Sloper; Constance May Wardale
